Step 1 - Create Conversion Parameters
Within the Facebook adverts and campaign manager dashboard, choose to create and ad with the goal to ‘Increase Conversions on your Website’. Next, make sure to enter your website address correctly and then click on ‘Define a New Custom Conversion’. The URL you need to enter here depends on the conversion you are seeking. In the video, the URL for the ‘Thank You’ page is inserted as this is the page that appears after a website visitor has completed an enquiry form (hence this is the conversion that we are looking to track in this example). After assigning your perceived value per conversion (this is a figure that you will have to decide/deduct from your own business activity and goals), you will have created your custom conversion parameters.
Step 2 - Create Advert Itself
Next, make sure to select this newly created custom conversion (you can name this whatever you would like in Facebook) from the subsequent drop-down menu to ensure that this is what the pixel will track. This forms the crux of your ad campaign – of which you are asked to name the campaign at this stage. Your next move is to set your audience and budget as you would with any regular Facebook ad campaign. Be sure however to choose the ‘Optimise for Conversions’ option when prompted. The next step makes sure that you are happy with the look of your advert by allowing you to add images alongside the text of the ad for example. When you are happy with it, process the order and click on ‘Continue’ when prompted to create your Facebook ad.
Step 3 - Add the Conversion Pixel to your Website
To do this, simply go to ‘Tools’ and then ‘Pixels’ within the ribbon of tabbed options within the Facebook Ads manager. Next navigate to ‘View Pixel Code’ and a pop-up window will appear within which lives the code of the pixel. Copy this code and you then need to paste this into the header of your Joomla website. To do this, open the relevant Joomla template file that houses the code for the header area of your website. Like as seen in the video, this may be within your ‘Index’ file. Paste the pixel code just before the last header tag and then click on ‘Save’. Well done, you have now added the pixel to your website.
